What’s On? Brunswick Heads Old & Gold Festival – 8 June
Love a good deal? Want to snag some wonderful treasures while on holiday? Well, schedule your next holiday to Byron Bay for the weekend of 8 June (the Queen’s Birthday long weekend) and make the trip to Brunswick Heads for the Old & Gold Festival. This Byron Bay festival features garage sales all over town and three collectable and secondhand fairs, as well as tons of fun activities, including live music, face painting, horse and carriage rides and crafts.
Brunswick Heads hosts this festival annually, and it goes on regardless of the weather conditions. Luckily, many of the activities are located under tents, so no worries if there happens to be some rain. But hopefully it’ll be sunny skies so you can spend the day searching for unique items.
Plan your day
The All Town Garage Sale, featuring more than 100 households selling wares, takes place throughout the town, so you can simply drive or walk around going from sale to sale. The sales begin at 8 am so make sure you get there early if you’re really looking to do some serious treasure hunting! The sales continue until 2 pm.
This Brunswick festival also includes four other fairs, which will feature secondhand and collectable items.
- Indoor Collectables Fair, 8:30 am to 4 pm, Memorial Hall (Fingal Street)
- Ye Olde Church Fair, 8:30 am to 3 pm, Catholic Church (corner of Tweed and Mullumbimby Streets)
- Brunswick Heads Public School’s Treasure Trove Fair, 8:30 am to 3 pm (corner of Fingal and Park Streets)
Additionally, there is a book fair being held in the visitor centre at Memorial Hall from 8:30 am to 3 pm, so while you’re at the collectables fair, be sure to stop by and check out the selections. And there’s even more shopping to be had when you visit the trail of secondhand and other shops offering sales in town during the Old and Gold Festival.
Kids activities
Plus, there are so many other excellent things to do during this Byron Bay festival. If you have kids along with you, there are plenty of activities available such as:
- horse and carriage rides (10 am to 2 pm near Memorial Hall),
- the Lucky Penny prize wheel (starting at 10 am at Memorial Hall near Fingal Street),
- Fairy Trail (10 am to 3 pm) and
- Lots of live music and entertainment available.
Also, there’s a kid drop off option at the Brunswick Heads Picture Show from 10 am to 2 pm where the movie theatre will entertain the kids and show cartoons on the big screen.
Other options
Another option for things to do once you are done shopping the sales is checking out the historical society’s display, “Wilsons Creek Hydro Power Station,” from 8:30 am to 3 pm in Memorial Hall, or going on the self-guided historical town walk (takes about an hour) after you pick up the map at the Visitor Centre (open 9 am to 3 pm).
The Old and Gold Festival also features live music from 10 am to 2 pm at two locations (Valiant Music on Fingal Street and Memorial Hall).
Come hungry as there’s plenty to eat between the Devonshire Teas, homemade cakes, BBQ and curry. Check out the event program for a full listing of times and events.
