Best Beaches in Bryon Bay for Relaxation
When most people dream about their holidays, it doesn’t often involve tons of people and jostling for a spot on the beach, restaurant or even attractions. Unless you’re heading for a theme park or something similar, people look to a holiday as a time to relax, regroup, catch up with friends and family and generally catch their breath.
That’s why when planning your holiday in Byron Bay, you might be wondering which beaches will offer the most quiet, relaxing atmospheres? Picture yourself settling into a spot on the sand, taking a stroll along the ocean’s edge, maybe even taking a soothing dip in the water. Sound right up your alley? Then, look no further than our list of beaches in Byron Bay where you can clock up some relaxation time.
Belongil Beach
When you head to Belongil Beach, you’ll go find a long stretch of beach that offers a quiet spot to take a walk or soak up some sun.
If you’re into snorkelling, then you won’t want to forget your gear. The SS Wollongbar, a 2K ton passenger steamship was stranded right in front of the beach in 1921, is still visible and offers an excellent snorkelling spot when there’s no swells. The shipwreck also helps create a popular surf break, The Wreck. “Sitting on the seawall indulging in some local fish and chips while watching the surfers at The Wreck is a fun way to spend some time.” – ByronBay.com
Also, note that it’s a pet friendly beach, so if you brought your canine companion on your holiday, he’ll be able to log some beach time too at Belongil!
Cosy Corner
Located on the south side of Cape Byron, Cosy Corner is part of the Arakwal National Park. Due to being tucked in under a cliff, you’ll escape northerly winds and be in a good vantage point for watching hang gliders launch off the cliff.
But the main reason to come here is to relax and either sunbathe or swim (locals like this beach for swimming because of its protected surrounds). If you pack a picnic, you’ll be set for a longer visit. Note if you want to park at Tallow Beach Road and walk to the beach, you’ll have to pay $6 to park your car.
Wategos Beach
Often called the prettiest beach in Byron Bay, Wategos Beach is the perfect location for you to relax during your holiday. From the naturally provided shelter to the gentle waves, Wategos won’t disappoint.
You can plan to spend a good portion of a day here because there’s also BBQs available for use and even a nearby cafe. If you walk over the path from Wategos you’ll arrive at Little Wategos, an extension of its big sister that also is a great place to swim and snorkel.
Tallow Beach
Tallow Beach, located 3.2 km from Byron Bay, is definitely worth seeking out as most likely you’ll find yourself in an almost completely secluded beach at off-peak times (not Summer or school holidays).
The perfect white sands make a great place to take a beach walk. You might see surfers as it is a popular to catch waves especially at sunrise. You can also do a spot of whale watching in Winter and Spring. Whales migrate between the Great Barrier Reef and Antartica.
Tallow Beach isn’t safe for swimming as it has frequent rips and is unpatrolled.
Cosy Corner is located on the northern edge of this beach, which can be found on the south side of Cape Byron and near Arakwal National Park.
