The Coveted Award
The Australian Tourism Awards are the cream of the crop, the top prize in Australia’s tourism industry. The awards, which date back to 1985, are owned and managed by the National Tourism Alliance and handed out at the Qantas Tourism Awards Ceremony.
Bringing home this award to Byron Bay supports the community’s tourism as a whole. It brings recognition to the area, which is largely supported by holiday visitors.
This major award comes on the heels of several other honors for one of the best cafes in Byron Bay. The restaurant received the Best Café in Australia Award from the Australian Small Business Champion Awards and was named in Australia’s Top 500 Restaurants list by The Australian Financial Review. The café also was given awards in the last year at the NSW Tourism Awards, North Coast Tourism Awards and the NSW Business Chamber Regional Awards.
About this Award-Winning Café

In 2007, Byron Bay locals Ben and Belinda Kirkwood saw an opportunity to renovate and make one of the best cafes in Byron Bay new again so it could continue to be loved for generations to come. Keeping the amazing views of the oceans and mountains front and center as well as the charm of the original café, the remodeled café reopened with its 110-seating capacity in October 2007.
It has become a popular wedding venue as well as general Byron Bay event venue and catering option. All the while maintaining the main dining experience with its large, outdoor dining deck that includes a retractable roof. The interior is an open plan, making use of natural light and a contemporary beach design.
